200 Amp Relay & Battery Isolator - Customer Questions

Frequently Asked Questions by Oznium Customers

I have a 2005 Chevy Trailblazer with an XS Power primary starting batt under hood and a second XSPower batt in the rear, connecting to my amps, batts are charged by a Mechman 370 amp alt.

What under the hood of my 2005 Trail Blazer can I use as a Positive (engine on) trigger wire for my solenoid???
Yes, you can use a positive trigger wire for you solenoid.
Can I use a 100 amp relay before and after a 200amp isolated
Yes, that will be fine.
Can I use lower fuses (80 amp fuse) to the 200amp fuse relay and after secondary battery (80 amp fuse ) to the audio amplifier?
What are you trying to accomplish?
Can this relay be used for 3 batteries connection - by Gary (United States)
If you'd like to isolate two batteries, you should use one relay.

If you'd like to isolate three batteries, you should use two relays.

If you'd like to isolate four batteries, you should use three relays, and so on...
I see that there are many amperages of relays, how many amps do I need when buying a relay for my car audio system ,, as of now I'm having battery draw issues, this is what I need but not sure of the amperage ?
It depends how many amps you will pass through the relay.
If you pass more amps than the relay is rated for then the relay will burn out.
To figure out the amount of current your components draw, you can look at the technical specifications.
For example, you amplifier might say it draws 20 amps.
Or you could always use an amp meter to get an exact reading.
Or just use the 200 amp relay to be safe...
Is their a negative effect if I have a isolater and a capacitor hooked up together? - by Rick (Los Angeles)
I don't see why there would be a negative effect. Go for it!
I have a project car that I am completely rewiring. Would this relay be safe to use, to supply a small fuse panel power when the key is in the on position? It would be much more efficient, than the 80 amp for this project, correct? - by Dustin (Franklin, KY)
Yes
The diagram explains a lot but if the batteries are connected parallel would you still to to run a power wire from one positive terminal to the other and also connect the relay to it with separate power wires or is every thing that is shown in the diagram all you need to do ?
Sorry, I'm having a hard time understanding exactly what you're asking. Can you be a bit more clear? The batteries are always connected in parallel...
Will a 200 amp relay ,,stop cars light from flickering and hit harder for bass
No, you might need a capacitor.
can iuse this to shut off my battery - by bob
Yes
Hi i connected the battery isolator as shown in the picture but the second battery is not holding charge. I hook it up the remote to the ignition and when i turn the car off and leave my system on it turns off after a while. I check the voltage and goes down from 12 volts to 8 volts. Any info will be helpful thanks - by CEDRIC
Try replacing the battery? It is normal for batteries to go bad over time. If its brand new, then maybe some other issue.

By "hooked up remote to ignition", you mean the relay is connected when the engine is on, and disconnected when the engine is off? That's the way it should work.
does the relay have a metal or a plastic housing and is it water proof?
Housing appears to be plastic, and don't actually know if it is waterproof.
can the isolator be connected to either the primary battery positive terminal or to the alternator? - by Felix
Yes.
How is the second recharged - by Arthur
From a battery.
Can this relay use for 2 differnt kinds of batteries such as the main battery is wet battery and the aux bat is dry battery? - by Kobe
I don't see why not, they are both putting our power.
what if I have a 500 amp battery and a 200amp relay would this cause trouble? - by Elvin (monticello)
Don't think it'd be a problem.
Do you need a relay or isolater switch if you connect a capaciter from you batery.it seems mine is drawing a bit of power while car is off.and remote central locking doesn't want to work cause of the power. - by Andre (durban south africa)
Might as well try using a relay then. Or maybe the capacitor is going bad.
Can I wire a PLC to this relay to program when it open and closes a 200amp DC circuit?
I don't see why not. Go for it.
can you use two different size batteries
Yes that will not be an issue
the amp relay will solve battery drainage and light flickers when powering a sub amp?
No, that is not the function of a relay. You're looking for a capacitor.
Do you have a visual display of how to hook up the isolator? - by Adam

WAT IS THE DIFERENCE BETWEEN THIS AND A CAPACITOR - by JOHN (MIAMI FL)
There's a huge difference! From our friends at Wikipedia:

A capacitor is an electrical/electronic device that can store energy in the electric field between a pair of conductors (called "plates"). The process of storing energy in the capacitor is known as "charging", and involves electric charges of equal magnitude, but opposite polarity, building up on each plate.

A relay is an electrical switch that opens and closes under the control of another electrical circuit. In the original form, the switch is operated by an electromagnet to open or close one or many sets of contacts.
Do you have any wiring diagrams on how to use this for a dual battery setup? - by Audio (Enola)
Give the 2 small contacts positive and negative, and the 2 big contacts will be connected. Remove power from the 2 small contacts and the 2 big contacts will be disconnected.

Connect one of the big contacts to the main battery. Connect the other big contact to the secondary battery.

Give the 2 small contacts power and ground when you want your batteries to be connected.
Can this 200 amp relay be wired between the main battery under the hood and a second battery in the trunk? If not, what is this 200 amp relay used for? - by Cliff
You can certainly use this relay as a battery isolator. You can also use it for many other things.
Can this 200 Amp Relay be used as battery switch?
Yes
