Frequently Asked Questions

You can experiment with a number of different resistors until you find a suitable brightness.
To start, we'd recommend ordering about 5 of the 1/2 Watt, 560 Ohm resistors.
You can then try wiring anywhere from 1 to 5 (or even more if you want) in series.
You can connect them to either the positive or negative wire.
It won't reduce nor damage the life of the LED. If anything, it should increase it slightly.
Here's a quick video to show how you can use the resistors:

The nuts on the 6mm bolt is sooooo tiny. it's easy to miss.
So here's a photo to show you where to look for it.
And please be careful not to overtighten it - this could break the flange which is somewhat delicate.

Great for theatrical props

I've been using Oznium pre-soldered component LEDs for years for custom made candles, starfields, stardrops, weird make-this-thing-light-up practicals, all to great success.
I recently purchased a bunch of these in various colors at 16mm for some indicator lights on 1940s industrial set pieces on a new work in Chicago.
Pros:
They're bright as heck - they're fully visible through stage washes across 60' - 100' of seating.
They're prewired, so install is super easy.
They dim VERY smoothly with generic 8 and 16 bit LED decoders, RC4, higher quality decoders - everything I've used them with they look like incandescent.
They're cost effective - they're a steal at this price.
CONS:
Close up you can totally tell that the white/amber units are LED - the chips on those bolts are fully coated in phosphorus/resin, so if you're using these for museum pieces you'll have to fake out the lensing.
They're great. I wish they made a set at 25mm, that'd give more variety for period indicators.
LED Bolts - 6mm 1W, 11mm 3W, 11mm 1W
The DMan from Los Angeles, CA
I dig the bolt LEDs. I use them as brake/running lights on a high power 50mph electric bicycle. They are nice and bright and don't strain the battery. My main concern is being visible in a high traffic automobile situation. 2 wheeled vehicles are not normally the most visible objects on the streets. A 50mph bicycle is even less visible.
The red stainless steel 11mm 3W bolt is used as a center brake/running light that is always on when the bike is active. It's on a dual intensity circuit activated by a normally open optocoupler relay triggered by bike's 5V electric brake lever motor cutoff. Two 1W 11mm red bolts are used as rear running lights/brake lights activated by a wireless controller, also triggered by the 5V signal of the brake levers. The 3 red 11mm bolts are nice and bright.
I run 2 of the amber 6mm bolt LEDs on both sides of the bike as running lights, also on the wireless controller. After the sunsets is when I use the running lights, so that I'm more visible to cars from the sides and the rear.
So far, so good!
You Get What You Pay For

I purchased 12 LED Bolt Lights from Oznium for a exterior auto application. The Oznium lights are a replacement for bulbs that have failed at an astonishing rate from a supplier that uses made in China led bolt lights. I should have chosen the Oznium product first. It would have saved me money and time spent at my installers to replace the failed "made in china" product. This time I made the right decision. Looking for a better product my internet research found Oznium LED Bolt Lights. They are manufactured by Oznium and are slightly more per bulb. However my experience with the made in China product was so dismal the thought that crossed my mind repeatedly was "you get what you pay for". So I paid a little more for the Oznium product and replaced all 12 of the lights. So far they continue to function properly. My installer even commented on the obvious high quality of the Oznium light compared to the ones that he was replacing. I expect years of problem free service.
Issue with lens, EXCELLENT customer service!
M Lane from North Georgia
I had originally attempted to write a 3 star review because two of the four lenses had fallen off before I even had a chance to install them. Turns out that I used some quotation marks in that review and it resulted in an error when submitting the review. They've since fixed that bug.
I'm giving these 4 stars instead of three. The LEDs themselves are well made, sealed, and plenty bright. Yes, two of the lenses fell off and Oznium is working on a better design. I used those two in a location that may benefit from a 180 degree spread, so this could be a blessing in disguise.
What you really need to know is that Oznium's customer service went way above and beyond any and all expectations to make things right! And they did it without me asking them or expecting them to. I'm floored!
Small Bolt, Big Heart

I have been using these Oznium Bolt lights since December 2014 (11mm, fitted at the bottom of my car doors as courtesy lights when you open the door). All four work perfectly well, despite the fact they were under water for a fortnight after rain caused floods. As for the quality of light output, they are in a much higher league than their price would suggest.
This month, I have purchased 10 of these Bolt lights (16mm) for use as ambient garden lights around the house connected to a dusk-to-dawn photocell sensor. For a long term test prior to actual installation, I connected one of the Bolt light to the house mains (via their waterproof 420mA Transformer/Adapter) and left it on for two days (yes, forty-eight hours). No problem, other than the casing being slightly warmer to touch than normal, and I would say that heat dissipation is fairly good considering the long test period. The beam pattern of the 16mm Bolt is noticeably larger than its younger sibling (11mm).
With a little innovation, whether it is automotive, decorative indoors, or accent outdoors, I can't see anyone going wrong with these cute lights, considering how little they cost.

PS. I have requested Oznium for a 5V USB version for use with my PC table-top as work light. We'll see.
Kayak and Camping
Dale Brown from Colorado Springs, CO
I recently bought 4 of the 1w lights in red, 4 1w lights in UV, and 2 of the 3w lights in red and green.
I put 2 1w UV lights in the back of my kayak to illuminate my fishing line at night and the other 2 on my battery box.
I put 2 of the 1w red lights in the cockpit of my kayak so I can see what's there and the other 2 on my battery box that I take camping.
The 3w lights I put on the bow of my kayak as navigation lights for nighttime safety.
They all work GREAT!! They are a high quality product and in my opinion the way to go with your project and money. When I need more I'll buy them directly from Oznium - not Amazon cause you never know what you are going to get. I highly recommend Oznium brand LED lights.
BTW, the red lights are best if you don't want bugs - and they don't mess up your night vision. The UV lights make your campsite look really cool but they definitely will attract bugs. My next project is an underwater fishing light - the 3w lights are perfect for that application - they are that bright.
These bolt Oznium Bolt LEDs are simply AMAZING!

I'm a kayak tournament angler and there are many times that I get on the water before first light. I bought the green and red bolt lights so I could install them in the handle of my Hobie Pro Angler 14 Fishing Kayak.
The problem these lights have solved for me is huge.....
Often times I pre-fish a lake and map an area on my GPS and Sonar to fish. On tourney day I will navigate to that spot using waypoints I've saved in my system previously. Prior to the installation of my Oznium Bolt LEDs, I had surface mounted nav lights on the bow to the starboard side. This was the most logical spot as I have an anchor cleat mounted in the bow to the port side. The problem I had with the surface mounted navigation lights is glare. Being in a kayak you are much closer to all parts of your boat than you are in a larger boat with an outboard. The glare from these lights would affect my view of my GPS and after focusing my eyes on the GPS and overcoming the glare, when I would look up to make sure I wasn't steering my boat into a stump (or any of the various other obstacles you have to navigate around on a lake), I was blinded until my eyes adjusted to the lower light condition.
The flush mounted Oznium Bolt LEDs solved all that. I mounted them in the bow handle and they face forward while still producing a great amount of light to make me visible on the water.
I couldn't be happier with this product and I will certainly continue exploring additional ways that this technology can improve my approach to kayak tournament fishing!
Bolt Lights Are So Versatile
Bucky Helms from Dallas, NC
Just installed your 7mm bolts on my Triton. Put 6 on the front deck, 2 under the seats, and 2 in my livewells. Also installed your waterproof strip LEDs in all of my compartments. I couldn't be happier with the results and have turned a few heads at the local Thursday night tournaments around here. A couple of the guys are going to place their orders soon. I highly recommend your products as the quality vs cost is amazing! Delivery was on time and tracked like Oznium was delivering my package personally to my door with a email notification within 5 minutes of my package being delivered. Thanks.
Inconspicuous, yet very bright!
Len K. from Chicago, IL
I'm using the product for accent lighting on my bass boat.
If you look around on the internet under bass boat led lighting you'll see what people are doing to their boats with LED lighting. My research has shown that Rigid Industries and Bluewater LEDS are the most popular. It seems like some of the LED self adhering strips are fairly popular.
After a lot of research I went with the Oznium Bolts because of the neat finished appearance. They are very inconspicuous, hardly visible at all. I like the small diameter hole required to mount the lights. It was important to me that all wiring be completely hidden. Many of the competitors' products are much larger and somewhat obtrusive. The strip lights require a hole adjacent to the end of the strip that the wiring runs through which is very unsightly in my opinion. Small holes were extremely important as nobody wants to drill into their fiberglass. After drilling the holes, I coated the openings with fiberglass resin to seal it up. I followed this with the o-rings you sell to really make it watertight. Fiberglass can absorb moisture, so I can't have any chance of water seeping behind the light.
I think the finished installation looks fantastic, professional, almost like it was a factory option.
If I could offer suggestions on how to improve the product, I would suggest a larger diameter wire. I had to tin the ends with solder to make them acceptable for a red 18-22 gauge solderless terminal. I think I would go with a hex nut as well rather than the knurled nuts. The double nut is good though as the second one acts like a locknut. The ultimate would be a black face on the front to make them almost invisible. I would have purchased the stainless steel rather than the aluminum if they were offered in black. I believe these had a better wiring whip on them, but I wanted the light to be almost invisible, nothing shiny.
I just finished the project last night. I will snap a few pictures and send them your way. I really think you could sell a lot of these to the boating industry. Once again I believe it's a superior offering. I don't know why anyone would mount the larger clunkier lights when they can have a clean installation with the bolts. What started me looking for the bolt type LED was the Chicago Boat Show. They had a Skeeter bass boat on display with LED lighting very similar to your bolts on the bow of the bolt. I believe the face of their light was black when off. you should approach the bass boat manufacturers with your bolts.
I hope these hold up to the elements as I did question this on the website before purchasing.
Thanks for requesting my feedback. I will say that I am very impressed with Oznium as a company. I think the customer service is the best I've ever seen regardless of purchase price. My order was relatively small, but the service I've received has been outstanding. One out of the 10 lights was defective, and I was sent a replacement free of charge with no additional shipping fees. I was so impressed with how the warranty was handled that I shared the e-mail with my coworkers as a great example of stellar customer service.
